Albuquerque, NM – March 18, 2025 – The Girl Scouts of New Mexico is proud to announce the appointment of Celia Tellez as its new Chief Executive Officer. A distinguished leader with over 25 years of experience in nonprofit management, strategic growth, and program innovation, Celia brings a deep passion for empowering young women and a lifelong connection to New Mexico’s rich cultural heritage.
A New Mexico native with generations of family history in the state, Tellez has dedicated her career to fostering leadership, community engagement, and operational excellence. Her deep understanding of the state’s diverse, multicultural communities will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of Girl Scouts across New Mexico, ensuring that girls from all backgrounds have access to life-changing opportunities in leadership, STEM, entrepreneurship, and outdoor experiences.
“Returning to lead the Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails is not just a professional milestone, but a personal one. I was a Girl Scout in Troop 143 in Old Town Albuquerque. I participated in the Cookie Product Program known and went to camp at Rancho del Chaparral” said Tellez. “This state has shaped who I am, and I am honored to give back by investing in the next generation of leaders. My vision is to build a strong, sustainable Girl Scout movement in New Mexico—one that empowers every girl to reach her full potential while honoring the unique history and cultures that make our state so special.”
Tellez brings extensive experience from her tenure at Girl Scouts of the USA, where she served as Vice President of Program Strategy and Development, National Partnerships, and Council Program Operations. In these roles, she led nationwide initiatives that expanded programming, strengthened local councils, and secured key corporate partnerships. She also spearheaded innovative virtual programming, ensuring continued engagement for thousands of girls during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to her work at the national level, Tellez served as Chief of Programs and Community Engagement at Girl Scouts of Central Texas, where she increased membership engagement, helped diversify funding sources, and led major initiatives that improved financial sustainability. Her expertise in strategic planning, fundraising, and organizational leadership makes her uniquely equipped to lead Girl Scouts of New Mexico into its next era of growth.
The Board of Directors expressed confidence in Celia Tellez’s ability to elevate the organization’s impact across the state. “Celia’s leadership, strategic mindset, and passion for empowering young women make her the perfect leader for this moment,” said Marti Fourier-Revo, Board Chair. “Her deep roots in New Mexico and extensive Girl Scout experience will be instrumental in strengthening our programs, expanding community partnerships, and ensuring long-term financial sustainability.”
With a focus on expanding opportunities for girls in rural and underserved communities, strengthening financial resilience, and deepening partnerships with local businesses and philanthropic leaders, Tellez is eager to engage funders and community stakeholders in a shared mission to build a brighter future for girls across New Mexico.
