The Mane Event
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be around horses? Have you ever wanted to braid a horse mane, or give them special treats? This is the camp for you! Spend time at the barn learning about horses and how to care for them. Have a special barn lunch with the riding staff and go on a staff-led horse ride in the arena. Enjoy all the other cool activities of camp, as well.
Pro-Chef: Cupcake Wars
The pro-chef series is back this summer with a new challenge – CUPCAKE WARS! Spend the week learning and preparing some exciting and impressive desserts. Use team work to master and complete challenges. Talk to our chef to get advice about different ingredients and combinations. Experiment and dazzle in some crazy mixes. Take all you have learned to our Rancho Challenge Kitchen to prepare your best cupcake for the camp and our guest judges! Prizes will be awarded. Make a cookbook so you can keep track of all the goodies.
E2: English Equestrienne
In this advanced-beginner level riding program you will continue to learning about horse care and safety while exploring the world of English-style tack and technique! You will also have a chance to participate in traditional camp activities like arts and crafts, nature exploration, archery, songs and s’mores around the campfire.
Pack your bags and head out to Abiquiu Lake for a 3 day, 2 night adventure. Swim and lounge on the cool blue waters. Learn about and observe nature while hiking along the dam’s gorge. Learn how to cook outdoors and star gaze. Head back to camp for your choice of other camp activities. End the week with a tan and some great memories!
Magic, Mystery & Mayhem
Do you like wizardry & mystery? Are you good at solving clues and challenges? There is something strange happening at Rancho and only a true wizard can help the counselors figure out what is going on. Use potions and magic to get closer to solving the mystery. Get finger prints; create character sketches of those that are involved. Sit down for a mystery dinner as you practice all the skills you have learned. Add in action packed games of quidditch and sip on some butterbeer to refresh us and we are sure to have a little mayhem.
Advanced Wrangler In Training
This final step puts all your training and leadership skills to the test. You will be assigned a unit in our horse program, working alongside our counselors and riding staff. Take the lead with planning and teaching younger campers in all aspects of camp, but primarily focusing on our riding program. This 4-program will give you a feel of what it is like to be a counselor, without the full time commitment. Help with all camp programs and plan a mounted flag ceremony.
Prerequisite: Completion of WIT II or equivalent riding experience. Separate application required. Campers will return home between sessions, unless there is a weekend program and then they have the option to stay and help.
It is now time to put your training into action to see the difference you make being a mentor to a child! Work alongside the counselors in a unit, help girls plan their awesome camp experience, plan an “all camp” event or special activity. Spend time with the Admin Team learning how to make camp run smoothly and see exactly what the Camp Director does. Along the way, you will develop your own special vision of a perfect camp while you gain the skills to turn your vision into a reality.
